Ocean Stars Lanka (OSL) is a registered all-island NGO in based in Batticaloa, Eastern Sri Lanka. The charity runs educational and community projects in areas affected by the 2004 Tsunami and 26-year Sri Lankan civil war.
Ocean Stars Lanka’s is funded by its sister organisation Ocean Stars Trust UK, which was set up in 2005 as an emergency relief organisation in the wake of the Tsunami.
In the last fifteen years, Ocean Stars Lanka has developed into one of the best-known preschool educational providers in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. Providing teacher salaries, uniforms and resources, as well as boosting female employment through the provision of work skills programmes in the two Hope House projects.
In total, Ocean Stars Lanka supports 20 preschools in three regions of Sri Lanka, with the majority based in Batticaloa district. The charity operates a link school programme that partners schools in the UK with secondary schools in Batticaloa district and facilitates a cultural programme between volunteers from the UK link schools and local school children.
